Snow Much Fun: Winter Science in Action at Spring Lake!

Snow Much Fun: Winter Science in Action at Spring Lake!

At Spring Lake Public Schools, learning extends beyond the classroom—especially when there’s snow on the ground! More than 80 students recently embraced the cold for a hands-on winter science adventure with our Nature Club.

Bundled up and ready to explore, students discovered the incredible ways animals survive the harsh winter months. They learned how spiders, ants, ladybugs, and frogs adapt to freezing temperatures, whether by burrowing underground, producing natural antifreeze, or finding shelter beneath leaves and logs. But the learning didn’t stop there—students put their newfound knowledge to the test with a creative challenge!

Using snow, sticks, and other natural materials, they designed and built tiny snow shelters for toy bugs, mimicking the survival strategies of real-life creatures. This hands-on experience blended science, creativity, and outdoor fun, reinforcing key lessons in a way that only nature can.

It was a perfect day of exploration, teamwork, and discovery, proving once again that some of the best learning happens when students are engaged, curious, and having fun!
