Seniors Meet Kindergartners: Passing the Torch in Laker Pride

A new tradition at our school is already making a lasting impression. What began just last year has become a highlight of the fall season: our senior class spending their Powder Puff halftime with the incoming kindergarteners. This simple yet powerful gesture brings together two very different corners of the Laker family, making connections felt throughout the entire crowd in attendance.

At the Powder Puff game, the Class of 2026 eagerly awaited the moment when the youngest Lakers would join them on the field. When the whistle blew, seniors and kindergartners lined up facing one another, each pair sharing nods, waves, high-fives, and fist bumps. The seniors even handed out some Laker tattoos the children can wear to the Homecoming Game on Friday night. Pure joy filled the air as the little ones bounced in their sneakers and the seniors crouched down to introduce themselves, creating snapshots of joy and unity that spectators won’t soon forget.

Beyond the fun, this gathering symbolizes something deeper. It’s a passing of the torch, a celebration of continuity and school spirit that ties generations together. Seniors recall their own early days in the halls as they look into bright, curious eyes, while kindergarteners see role models who embody everything Laker Pride stands for—teamwork and kindness, topping that list.

This exchange goes beyond a single halftime event. It sparks conversations in classrooms, inspires volunteer opportunities, and strengthens bonds among families. By sharing their experiences and setting expectations, seniors encourage kindergarteners to embrace the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. For many little Lakers, those few minutes on the field are the start of a journey filled with pep rallies, rival games, and school dances.

This emerging tradition not only celebrates the present but also lays the groundwork for future classes to connect and grow. We can’t wait to see how the Class of 2027 will continue to welcome their youngest peers next fall.

Go Lakers!
