Lakers Partner with Local Municipalities to Promote Trail Safety

Spring Lake Public Schools is proud to join forces with Spring Lake Village and Spring Lake Township to cultivate a "Culture of Kindness" across our local bike paths and trail systems.

With dozens of Laker students riding their bikes to school every day, keeping our shared paths safe, welcoming, and connected is a top priority. By practicing everyday trail etiquette, our young riders have a direct opportunity to set a positive example for the entire community.

The Three C's for the Trail

To ensure our paths remain safe and enjoyable for cyclists, runners, and walkers alike, we encourage all Laker students and families to follow three basic principles:

  • Courtesy: Share the path generously. Give a friendly vocal heads-up or ring a bell well before passing, and take a moment to greet neighbors along the route.

  • Caution: Stay fully aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions while riding, look out for turning vehicles, and slow down at all street crossings and intersections.

  • Control: Maintain a manageable, safe speed. Stay in your lane, ride predictably, and always leave plenty of room to stop safely.

Building a safer community is a team effort. Let’s lead the way on the trails, Lakers!
