Lakers in Action: Alumna Kelly Larson Shares Business Wisdom with 4th Graders

At Spring Lake Public Schools, being a “Laker for Life” means more than just fond memories—it means giving back, inspiring the next generation, and staying connected to the community that helped shape you. Kelly (Murray) Larson, a proud member of the Class of 1988, is a shining example of that spirit.

Now a successful entrepreneur and owner of several beloved Tri-Cities businesses—including The Front Porch, Temptations, Sweet Temptations, Skoops, and Fortino’s—Kelly is well-known for bringing sweetness to our community. But this week, she sweetened Spring Lake in another way: by sharing her time and expertise with our 4th grade students.

As students prepare for their annual Market Day projects, Kelly visited classrooms to talk about the basics of business ownership. She offered practical insight into running a business, from marketing and customer service to pricing and creativity—all delivered with the warmth and passion that make her businesses so loved.

“Kelly brings real-world experience into the classroom in a way that’s both inspiring and accessible to young learners,” said a 4th grade teacher. “She helped students see themselves as future entrepreneurs and sparked a lot of excitement about Market Day.”

Her visit is just one example of how our alumni continue to make an impact. We are deeply grateful to Kelly—and to all Lakers who return to share their knowledge, time, and talents with the next generation.
