Lakers and Trojans Team Up for a Greater Cause

Rivalries can bring out the best in high school athletics—spirited crowds, exciting matchups, and traditions that keep communities buzzing all season long. But sometimes, the best moments happen not when schools face off, but when they join forces.

That’s exactly what happened this fall when Spring Lake Public Schools and Fruitport Community Schools came together for a cause greater than any game. With the support of the Spring Lake Rotary Club, the two communities raised nearly $4,000 for Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and for the Isaac Rose family, a Fruitport family navigating a difficult time and in need of a little extra care.

The initiative reminded everyone involved that while competition is fun, collaboration is powerful. The Lakers and Trojans may battle fiercely on the field, but in this effort, they stood side by side—channeling the same passion and energy usually reserved for game day into something that will make a lasting difference.

We believe this is what school spirit is really about--showing up for your neighbors and putting kindness into action.

The fundraiser’s success speaks volumes about the character of both communities. Student-athletes, families, and supporters from each school set aside the scoreboard to focus on teamwork with an even bigger win: helping others.
