Holmes Kindergarteners Celebrate World Book Day as Published Authors
World Book Day is always a celebration of imagination, literacy, and the power of storytelling—but this year, it held extra meaning at Holmes Elementary. That’s because a group of Kindergarteners didn’t just read stories—they read their own self-published book!
In an inspiring display of creativity and early literacy, these young students authored and illustrated a book together, proudly sharing it with classmates and staff in honor of World Book Day. The project allowed them to take ownership of the storytelling process from start to finish—using Ms. Akers as their main character, they created a book about her living at the school! They, of course, illustrated the pages as well, making it a complete project.
The result? A joyful reading experience where students didn’t just see themselves reflected in the pages—they were the creators behind them.
The excitement in the room was contagious as students flipped through pages, proudly pointing out their contributions and encouraging others to read along.
At Spring Lake Public Schools, we believe in nurturing a love of learning by giving students opportunities to explore, create, and share. These Holmes Kindergarteners reminded us all that everyone has a story to tell—and that it's never too early to start telling it.
Happy World Book Day to our newest authors!
