Eighth Grade Visits SLHS: Preparing for the Next Chapter
As their time at the middle school comes to a close, Spring Lake’s 8th graders took a meaningful step toward their future with a visit to Spring Lake High School. Designed to ease nerves and build excitement, the day offered students a well-rounded introduction to what lies ahead.
The visit began with a welcome from SLHS counselors, who shared important information about class scheduling, graduation requirements, and the student services available to support them along the way. Hearing directly from the counseling team helped students understand how their high school journey will be guided and supported from the very start.
Next, a panel of current high school students offered something you can’t get from a brochure: real talk. They shared honest perspectives on academics, extracurriculars, school culture, and everything in between. The open conversation gave 8th graders the chance to ask questions, get advice, and learn from peers who were recently in their shoes.
And because lunchroom worries are real—Where do I sit? What are my options?—students had the opportunity to enjoy an actual high school lunch. They navigated the cafeteria, practiced the flow of lunch lines, and got a firsthand taste of the dining experience, helping to ease a common anxiety.
This visit is part of our district’s intentional approach to transition. We believe students deserve to feel informed, empowered, and excited about what’s next. By offering them a thoughtful preview of high school, we’re helping them walk in on day one not just prepared—but confident.
