Class of 2026 Celebrates a Journey Years in the Making

Graduation is often remembered as a single moment: a walk across a stage, a diploma in hand, a cap tossed into the air. But for the Spring Lake High School Class of 2026, commencement was more than an evening at Trinity Health Arena. It was the culmination of time filled with reflection, gratitude, anticipation, and celebration.

The journey toward graduation began with an important tradition that few guests ever see: rehearsal.

Before seniors could take the stage in front of thousands of family members, friends, staff, and community supporters, they gathered to practice every detail of the ceremony. While graduation may appear effortless from the stands, creating a meaningful and dignified event requires tremendous coordination. Seniors rehearsed entrances and exits, reviewed expectations, and worked through the many moving parts that transform a large arena into a place of celebration.

The rehearsal also highlighted the people who have quietly guided generations of Lakers. This year's preparation carried special significance as veteran educators Mrs. Draeger and Mr. Rabideau helped oversee their final graduation rehearsal before their retirements later this year. For decades, both have played important roles in supporting students throughout their educational journeys. Watching them help prepare one last graduating class served as a poignant reminder that commencement celebrates not only students, but also the educators who help shape their paths.

As graduation day continued, seniors participated in another cherished tradition: the Senior Walk.

Dressed in caps and gowns, members of the Class of 2026 returned to the elementary and middle school hallways where many of their educational journeys began. They walked past classrooms filled with younger students who lined the halls with cheers, smiles, and high-fives. For the seniors, it was an opportunity to revisit familiar spaces and reconnect with teachers and staff members who played a role in their growth over the years.

The walk carried a powerful message in both directions. Younger students saw firsthand what years of effort and perseverance can lead to. Seniors, meanwhile, had the chance to express gratitude to the educators who encouraged them, challenged them, and believed in them from the very beginning.

By evening, all roads led to Trinity Health Arena.

As families filled the seats and graduates gathered backstage, excitement mixed with reflection. There were nervous smiles, final conversations among friends, proud parents searching for familiar faces, and staff members preparing to celebrate another successful graduating class.

Once the ceremony began, the arena was filled with unmistakable Laker pride. The Spring Lake band and choir helped set the tone, student and staff speakers reflected on the significance of the moment, and graduates crossed the stage one by one to receive the diplomas they had spent years working toward.

The ceremony celebrated academic achievement, certainly, but it also celebrated growth. The Class of 2026 leaves Spring Lake having developed as learners, leaders, athletes, artists, musicians, volunteers, employees, and friends. Their experiences have prepared them for a wide variety of futures, but they all share a common foundation built within the classrooms, hallways, fields, stages, and community of Spring Lake Public Schools.

As the final names were called and caps soared into the air, the reality of the moment settled in: the Class of 2026 had officially become Spring Lake alumni.

It was a night of accomplishment, gratitude, and optimism—a fitting conclusion to one chapter and the beginning of another.
