A Lesson in Empathy: Mrs. Marcus’s Class Reaches Out
Recently, Mrs. Marcus’s class at Jeffers Elementary School took part in a heartfelt activity that underscored the power of empathy and connection. After hearing about the significant damage suffered at Avery’s Creek Elementary in North Carolina due to Hurricane Helene, students wrote “Welcome Back” letters to show support and encouragement.
Through this activity, students learned not only about the impact of hurricanes on communities but also about the importance of kindness and empathy in times of hardship. The letters were filled with hopeful words, colorful drawings, and messages of strength, letting Avery’s Creek students know that others are cheering them on from afar.
It’s through gestures like these that our students gain a deeper understanding of empathy and community beyond their own classrooms. This project serves as a reminder of the resilience shared among schools everywhere and the positive difference a few words of encouragement can make.
All our best to Avery’s Creek Elementary and all schools recovering from recent hurricanes. We’re proud of Mrs. Marcus’s class for their thoughtful outreach and the lesson it brings to all of us at Spring Lake.
