Special Education

Spring Lake Public Schools participates in the mandated Child Find requirement of identifying resident children who may be in need of special education programs and/or services. Child Find offers evaluations, at no charge, to children suspected of having a disability. If your child exhibits signs of possible developmental delay for 3- and 4-year-old children or if you are concerned about your child’s development, please call the Department of Special Education at 616-846-9294.

Each school district in Michigan is required to publicly post the process it uses to determine the existence of a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) for Special Education eligibility. In accordance with this requirement, SLD eligibility is evaluated using a pattern of strengths and weaknesses. The patterns of strengths and weaknesses method is based on both assessment and review of achievement scores and performance in a variety of academic areas, with documentation of patterns of strengths in one or more areas compared to other areas where the student demonstrates a pattern of significant academic weakness.
