Guided Reading Levels

Fourth grade students are piloting leveled reading at Holmes Elementary. Students have been assigned an independent reading level on the Fountas & Pinnell (F&P) scale by their teacher. Each student should have at least one book to read at their assigned independent level during Readers' Workshop in class. If you have questions about guided reading, please contact your child's teacher or read Understanding Leveled Reading.

The chart below compares the ATOS level found on the Accelerated Reader list to the F&P levels to assist students in finding the right book. The Holmes levels have been adjusted slightly to allow the students a wider range of books from which they may choose. You may search for the guided reading level of a book by using the Bookwizard. Be sure to select the gray box reading "Leveled Search." Then you can type a title or author in the Quick Search box. Holmes staff are also working to label books in the library to assist students in the books selection.
