Senior Service Hours

Updated 5-13-13

SLHS seniors are required to complete 18 hours of community service during their senior year. Seniors can begin accumulating senior service hours anytime after September 1 of their senior year.

Seniors may only be granted pre-approved service hours during the summer leading up to their senior year.

Current Service Opportunities

Howling Timbers Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization staffed entirely by volunteers and funded through donations and fundraisers. The mission of Howling Timbers is: to provide a life-long sanctuary to wolves, wolf dogs, and exotic animals that have been neglected, abused, abandoned or relinquished by their previous owner; to assist humane societies, animal shelters and the Michigan Department of Agriculture with the placement of wolf dogs and exotic animals; and to educate the public on the proper care and humane treatment of all animal species.
There are several volunteer opportunities from cleaning cages, feeding animals, mowing the property, or even just spending time with the animals.  Whatever suits your personality and holds your interest, is where we would hope to have you help out.
If you’re interested in volunteering at the sanctuary, please download and fill out our Volunteer Application from our website: www.howlingtimbers.org.  You can mail it in or drop it off in person.
Howling Timbers Animal Sanctuary is located in Muskegon County near the intersection of Maple Island (B31) and Evanston Ave., Muskegon, MI  49442.

NOTES:
Mission trips may be considered for senior service hours, but they must be pre-approved for a portion of the 18 hours. Contact Mr. Rabideau or Mrs. Draeger for approval ahead of time.
All senior service hours MUST be completed through a non-profit agency or organization. Students cannot perform service hours for family members. Parents/Relatives MAY NOT verify senior service hours.
The service hours should be completed in our local community.
Senior service hour opportunities will be listed on this page as well as in the high school’s daily announcements.
